Description This unit covers the competency required to conduct weapons range practice to support the maintenance of operational readiness in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).This competency encompasses the safe and efficient planning and conducting of range practices as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Conducting, in this instance, also includes effective supervision of safety, and the preparation and finalisation of range practice using weapons and ammunition for which the OIC is qualified to operate.

Learning Outcomes and Application The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

  • Relevant range regulations are identified and applied in accordance with standard procedures
  • Occupational health and safety (OH&S) requirements and recognised safety precautions including those contained in ADF procedures, are applied throughout the task
  • Relevant control measures are identified employed

  • Safety trace is constructed when required, in accordance with standard procedures

Duties of an OIC may include

Removing and accounting for range stores, produce and ammunition

Post range practice administration may include

Complete range clearance

Debriefing firers, users and staff

Raising of relevant range, training and trade documentation
